Everything about this game is very much of that style. In story mode you play as Speed Runner as you progress through the 1960’s-esque comic book story. There are 3 modes of play: Story, Versus, and Practice. It’s all about timing and using what you have to your advantage. Gliding across a long chasm? Yank an opponent back with a special grappling hook to send them plummeting to the ground below. Climbing up a narrow corridor? Drop a crate on top of your enemies to halt their progress and watch them fall to failure. Strategic use of power-ups is key to obtaining victory in SpeedRunners. Power-ups range from crates that you can leave behind to trip up other runners to molten rocks that knock out anything in their path. The controls are tight, allowing precise platforming. As you run, you can grapple and swing from ceilings, grab power-ups, and slide tackle your opponents. You and (usually) 3 others run and dodge pitfalls, traps, and other barriers in an attempt to leave all others behind until you are the sole survivor. SpeedRunners is a unique take on the platforming genre by DoubleDutch Games (and published by tinyBuild). Do you like superheroes? Do you like fun and frantic multiplayer mayhem? Do you like running? Do you like a good challenge? Then have I got a game for you!
